In peaceful times, people cling to broken systems simply because “that’s how it’s always been done”. Comfort is a prison.

Canadians should be agressively lobbying their politicians to embrace Linux and the open source ecosystem. Call your representatives. Write to your city council. Contact your town IT department. Do it now.

I tried to go back to on prem several years ago. The DC got bought up by IBM, service went to shit, and I was forced to migrate out of there, either to another of the IBM’s DCs or elsewhere. Waiting weeks for new disks to be ordered every time we started getting close to storage capacity for the DB isn’t a great experience either.
