Dutch: verstandskies, translated to wisdom tooth as verstand means wisdom, but if you change the intonation, you get the real original word: ver-stands-kies, meaning far standing tooth. The English word wisdom tooth is a wrong translation of the Dutch.

A friend of mine had six wisdom teeth. Does that mean he’s especially wise or especially judgemental?

I was going to say that in Europe too, but at least in Spain, teeth of judgment can be removed by public healthcare.

No, it means he’s being judged for his sins.

Juicio in that sense means “good sense” not judgement.

In this case yes. The meme has some truth in it, in that juicio can also mean trial or judgement - it’s just that no one would interpret it like that in this context.

        In Indonesian, it’s “lastborn tooth”.

Incidentally, we keep track of translations on Wiktionary, and we recently added a picture dictionary so you can see the names of the other teeth too. ^_^

Edit: Also, incisors in Japanese are “gate teeth”, which I think is lovely.

One of mine came in sideways like that. Shattered in my jaw eventually. Had it removed right before everything closed down from covid.

It’s las muelas del juicio because you get to judge how high your pain threshold is when they’re removed 🥲
