Eh, I don’t necessarily agree, you’re testing a child’s ability to come up with a solution moreso than their ability to follow instructions. Other answers are possible, and maybe a student prefers their own way. But one way of doing it, like a number line, should be so ingrained in all students that anyone knows at least that one way of doing it, imo.
Sounds reasonable, but the task should be something like “Draw a graph and show why 20 is smaller than 40” or something
