.ml is run by tankies; any criticism of the Soviet Union isn’t going to be met positively.
There’s plenty of criticism there, although there are also some total Glazers.
What they don’t allow is thoughtless extreme criticism that isn’t based on the material world. In that very thread there are people talking about how the soviet Union declined in its later years.
If you got to lemmy.ml and make some post about the failures of leadership leading to recriminalising lgbt love and culture people will willingly discuss it. Or how there were flaws in their women’s lib attempts that lead to pay disparities and so on.
What they tend to ban is stuff like this where someone just says “instance of terrible thing, therefore whole project bad and doomed” which is a ridiculous and frustrating way to analyse anything.
Not really my experience. I think its up to the mods mood that day or if they read you as “a good socialist” thats allowed to have critiques or as a “bad socialist” that somehow isnt allowed to have critiques.

Oh yeah its easy. Thats means its not a skill issue or communictaion problem for them, its just not what they want to do.
To a certain extent I agree that you have to consider the source. Someone saying “NYT sucks” means something very different when it comes from a leftist or a magat. But yeah, tankies in general are annoying. Most of them won’t even admit NK is terrible, and believing that means you’re corrupted by western propaganda. Still waiting for one of them to move to such a glorious paradise country…
