A Kemp’s ridley sea turtle named Rhossi got a 5,000-mile lift from the UK to Texas where a rehab at Houston Zoo will help him get back home.
I wasn’t here for the events of this story, so some details might be inaccurate, but I will relay them to the best of my ability.
A coworker of mine once went to, IIRC, the Maldives; however, during the flight, due the to duration, his wife developed a pulmonary embolism (or whatever is the name for the blood clot that precedes it) and had to be airlifted to a healthcare facility.
Apparently, the most immediately available aircraft was one that was transporting some sea turtles for … Reasons. Because of the immediacy of the need, the plane was commandeered to transport the coworker and wife.
According to him, riding with giant turtles was “pretty cool.”
