I love comics and many of them I do consider “high art”

the problem is they LITERALLY just have to follow the damn panels. it’s a friggin story board that is written out for them already. but so many writers and movie studios change dumb shit to “dumb it down” for the audience.

Primary example of which is the ending of the Watchmen. it’s a fairly accurate adaptation UNTIL the end and it just spits in the face of the entire point of the damn comic. the ending is SUPPOSED to be ridiculous, it’s SUPPOSED to be unbelievable. but for whatever reason they felt “nah, the audience won’t get it”

This is also why i’m not optimistic about the upcoming Avengers movies. all they have to do is literally just follow the plot of the recent Secret Wars/Battle World comics. that’s it. it’s a good story, it sets up everything for them - future films and all that. but they won’t.

Or the constant retelling of Batman. All you have to do is just follow one of the story arcs of whatever Batman comic. Do a killing joke movie, a hush movie, whatever. I no longer care about MORE versions of Year One.

To be fair, there are some things that work in comic books that don’t work in movies, and vice versa. But they should still try to adapt the comic panels so that it translates better to film, not change the storyline completely.

Also, we already have a Killing Joke movie and a Hush movie (unless you specifically meant big budget live-action adaptations).

I have been saying this for years. I mean I do understand why they changed Ironman origin from Vietnam to Afghanistan. I think Planet Hulk is a prime example. All they had to do was follow the comic but no Watiki had to change it to Thor and make ti a comedy. Same with Gor and Jane Foster as Thor. Fantastic Four is another example. When they pulled back RDJ to be Doom I just quit giving a shit.
