You don’t get why people would fantasize about getting to leave their old shitty life behind and start a new one in a cooler place with cooler friends or a new body or magic powers? I’m not a huge fan either but the appeal is pretty straightforward.

Isekai is just the fantasy version of sci-fi. It presents that, “what if?” question but (usually) with cat girls, swords, and magic.

Right, this is why a lot of them suck. There are good ones though, depending on what you like of course.
