When I was in school they usually let 7th & 8th graders do entries for the yearbook cover. Then when I was in the 6th grade they decided to change to let all student submit entries. Since then they always picked the dumbest sloppiest ones some 1st grader did

In the original (higher res) version of this from back in the day, you could see that his design wasn’t even good. The name of the library is on the book spines from right to left, and the left side is wasted space. The middle one is way better. Other entries must have been terrible lol

Yes it’s the correct orientation for book spines, but the words are still right to left so it reads “Library Public Fullerton”. Easily could have been fixed by switching them around and moving them to the left side of the card. Could also make the books progressively smaller so the angle leads the eye in the right direction, or add some shapes to the spine that direct the eye. He’s kind of done that with the lean but it still feels wrong when reading it. Would be even better if he stacked the books with the text vertically instead imo.

It feels funny, sure, but this is definitely the most correct way to do it, if you’re being pedantic about it. Which a library pretty much NEEDS to be.
You say “Wrong Way” but since the advent of chip cards, more and more are adopting ‘vertical’ patterns. On top of that, it’s a library, of course they choose the one with books on it.

Nothing against that, beyond the fact they’re selecting for the broadest appeal possible. He’s right, he dominated, but mostly by understanding the audience.

I think the idea is that it reads “top to bottom” but rotated 90 degrees
My family did a Christmas card design contests and for some reason I really cared about and put a lot of effort just to find out in Christmas Eve is it was fixed so my two 7 yo cousins won since the beginning and everyone but me knew about it. Everyone on my family got a big laugh on me and therly were like dude you’re 17, you don’t even participate on birthdays and suddenly you care? I was really piss and didn’t talk to anyone in the New years party. One of my aunt’s took pity of me and made my 7yo cousins made a card to me saying that they share the design price with me. I found that cute and let it be. Nowadays it brings a smile when I remember that because for real, I was the last person on the family to show any interest in anything, so I get it was a surprise for everyone that I cared.
I-I can’t stand it any longer, this whole plant is insane! Insane, I tell you!
