Hundreds of thousands of excess deaths every year just due human bodies failing have been happening for years due to summer heat.
Massive drought causing famine and self perpetuating wild fires. Massive floods and landslides causing massive destruction and death. Mass extinction isn’t on the horizon. It’s happening now.
Yeah I know, we’re bracing for a whopper of an El Niño across the world. The bad news is still worse than this year’s El Niño is coming due to environmental damage we’ve done, but the good news is still worse than that is avertable, if you catch my drift. People are oddly resilient, so I think it can get quite a bit worse than it is now before something I’d qualify as mass extinction would happen. Like COVID, we saw excess deaths with heat, not a mass extinction.

Mass extinction of species has happened since years ago. We are in the middle of a mass extinction event.
I’m not sure if humans will become extinct or not, but there is currently a mass extinction of species.
