Buying a used Ryzen 7 5800X3D CPU has apparently locked its new owner out of Valorant. Reddit user After-Cartoonist-196 posted on r/PCBaumeister that they bought the chip through the German classifieds site Kleinanzeigen and have owned it since September 21. The CPU apparently works fine. However, Valorant kicked them out at launch, even though the game ran normally on their previous processor. Riot support reportedly told them the CPU’s ID was blacklisted in Vanguard on August 12 because the previous owner had cheated. The user also claims their motherboard and storage drive got flagged, and that support refused to lift the ban. However, Riot’s head of anti-cheat, Phillip Koskinas, responded on X and disputed part of that.
This is an attack on the used parts market! They want you to buy more new parts, not old ones.
Or in other words, they have absolutely no reason why they should do anything at all about this.Cheat detection belongs on the server, not using up your CPU cycles and power and exposing you to serious security risks for the vast majority who don’t cheat.
I would buy silicon discounted because banned from invasive online games. I will never play that shit.
Hardware is a bad way to identify people especially with the prices these days, people are desperately looking for deals. Glad i give zero fucks about those types of games.
Funny. They made such a big deal when the pentiums had some sort of identifiable code back then. Now everyone just shrugs.
Ah the simpler ancient times of yesteryear. We didn’t just accept such crap. Now companies fear no resistence anymore (and there isn’t any).
I’m so glad I only play retro games.
