I’m tired of having my lot thrown in with red state shitholes.

Even “red” states tend to be a dichotomy of urban liberals and rural conservatives, or college educated liberals and service sector conservatives, or minority liberals and white conservatives. Some of the reddest counties in America are in New York and California. Some of the bluest are in Florida and Texas.

Secession is the democratic human right of self determination.

Secession from whom, by whom, through what political mechanism?

If you live in a neighborhood and five of your next door neighbors are sovereign citizens, are you now in their country cause they took a vote during a BBQ you weren’t invited to?

I get what you’re saying, and it only brings up more reasons that our system is as outmoded as it is undemocratic. States are an archaic and arbitrary construct. Even though anyone would agree that one-person-one-vote is a fundamental democratic principle, we don’t have that. A Wyoming voter has SEVENTY TIMES more voting power in the Senate than a Californian. States vote on the national issues there, not people. States are no more people than corporations are.

I don’t think there’d be much of a problem if we voted across the board, but we don’t, so state secession is the only option.

All other avenues are closed within a system designed to not allow democracy, nevermind reform.

How do you get states to abolish themselves?
