The Deno team is joining Cloudflare to radically simplify self-hosting Workers and Durable Objects, so developers can use the same primitives in more places.
Cloudflare acquires the team.
Deno gets one year or security updates and bug fixes and that’s it.
A really sad ending for deno. Spent a lot of time trying to get my team at work to consider deno instead of nodejs. The writing’s been on the wall for a while but now it’s officially over. Also I guess this means bun won?
They were prodded along by the success of Deno and Bun to add features like type stripping and a test runner, and maintained 100% Node compatibility the whole time. I dabbled in Deno and wished it well, and appreciated the better security of JSR over NPM, but that’s been caught up.
I’m interested in quickjs and consider implementing enough Node.js APIs using its core to run EviKit, but it won’t happen soon and won’t be a load-bearing project, just an exercise in how far I can go without LLMs.

Bun is owned by Anthropic and they’ve been vibe coding a port to Rust, so I’m not sure that’s much better.
Yep, I would say Node has won.
