I want that too, but for some reason it’s become like pulling teeth to get local split-screen multiplayer in a racing game anymore, and that’s a mandatory feature for me. Luckily we got Screamer this year.
What is screamer?
It’s an arcade racer with an anime sense of speed and an anime story mode. The story mode has its hits and misses, but the core loop is that your right stick is used for drifting (on the default control scheme), you build boost with a Gears of War style active reload system, spending boost additionally builds a second meter, and that second meter can either be spent on takedowns or defense against takedowns. It’s awesome, and it has split-screen multiplayer.
Unfortunately I don‘t really care about speeders let alone cruisers. If it was all about Podracing and the maps had more variety it would be a different story.
Tap for spoiler
A big part of the story revolves around the use of podracers and the ethics and the question of fairness of a league that permits them if it ends up removing entire races from being able to compete.
Sebulba is also a big player in the story.
it’s not… only podracing?
The game has mainly landspeeders, speeder bikes, and skim speeders.
Pod racers can be used during specific race events in the campaign, certain Arcade scenarios, or the multiplayer mode.
Now, this is pod racing! So, this isn’t really (much) pod racing, then.
At least I remember there was a pretty fun pod racing game released for PC and Playstation, back around the release of Episode 1. I bet it still holds up!
How is the audio for this game? Do you have good speakers or headset? Preferably speakers… Seems very few have a home surround system anymore. That used to be what I looked forward to in any games, the realistic car sounds, especially. Other games, the true surround sound helps in FPS or other action games.
It sounds good with an atmos soundbar using the 7.1 audio setting ingame
Crazy to reach for this game over RedOut 2. No other game gives me a sense of speed like Redout.
