I think this is more about buying replacement parts for existing users. Right now there is little reason to get into the old Vive for most people.

But it’s not really low cost. All 5 parts together would cost me 944 Euros (in Europe/Germany). And this includes only one base station, but 2 are recommended by Valve: https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/105E-66E3-962A-1577 It still requires a (not that powerful) PC and will use the storage of it. The Steam Frame on the other hand can be used on its own when needed (so no need to buy a PC, but it will be better with one), and it comes with a builtin SSD. The Frame starts at 1049 Euros for me.

So overall I don’t see a huge price advantage, even if the tech is a bit older now. Note: I am not dunking on the Vive. I just do not believe that there is a huge price advantage for someone who just getting started.

Not really, last time I saw one on sale it was like $300 for the whole set. You can’t buy Vives at retail/new anymore as far as I know.

Paying full price for a Vive these days would be a bad idea and you’d be waaaaay better off getting a Frame provided you are willing to wait. Even if you didn’t want to wait, you’re better off looking for a much better price on a used Vice compared to paying around a thousand.
