“Won’t somebody think of the kids?!” while they admit to using the data to squeeze more money from ads (translated making your experience better). They don’t deserve the communities they have anymore.
Soon any company you interact with will have enough information to ruin your life because there’s always a way for some employee to get the data even of you really do what you promise and don’t save anything.
As GLaDOS said - it’s been fun, don’t come back.

There’s not nearly enough sports discussion here for that. None of you Linux nerds talk about football/baseball/hockey. (Or Magic, for that matter.)
Then start talking about it, that sounds interesting, and I would genuinly love to hear about those topics, you, filthy animal.
Unfortunately my interest in the topics does not extend far enough to be the one digging through statistics and press releases. In the 1-9-90 I’m a 9.
(I am a 6 on a good day, but I don’t brag about it)
You should not disclose your age on the internet, my fellow human. This place is full of creeps. In any case, I hope you may find fun and interesting things in lemmy. Also, if you want to contribute, that’d be great!
stay cool :)
There might be more sports discourse if you participated in it you know.
In a literal sense sure, but not in a way that matters. As an example: The New England Patriots subreddit has 900k subs. It has dozens of posts made in the last 24 hours, with anywhere between 5 and 200 comments on each. The largest Patriots community here, patriots@lemmy.ml, has 338 subs and literally no activity in the last 9 months. Five weeks into the season!
That’s not a problem that can be fixed by one person’s can-do attitude, that’s a problem of scale. Lemmy needs to grow 100 times over to even approach that kind of experience.
Now, I don’t think lemmy needs to feel like reddit. But I also think it’s small-minded to be like “just stop using reddit” as if there were viable alternatives.
I remember back before there was enough football fans to even justify team specific subs on reddit. It didn’t happen by magic. More people kept talking, that attracted more people, and so on.
The point being that no community has ever grown without participation. If you want more people talking about football you got to actually talk about football. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen you in the NFL community. There was a game thread just a few days ago, you could have talked about the Patriots in that thread. They were playing.
Though I do agree the propensity of people on the fediverse who try to create little niche communities right away is a giant failing. Instead of doing it naturally and organically by making larger General communities that eventually get big enough to split off they try to create little ones right away and that fragments everything. I wish there was some way to stop that, or at least delete dead communities.
Lemmy isn’t enough, and that’s fine.
Find you some old school internet forums. They’re still out there, and it’s not quite as much a “one Boomer and his 2 buddies” as you might expect.
