When the trend first started it wasn’t uncommon for some doctors to advise against NNN because of the trend and there wasn’t enough data to say either way.

The last year or two I’ve seen most consensus lean towards just making it more detectable.

For some people the sharp change in habit causes pain, or other very minor medical issues. They go in and get an exam they other wise wouldn’t. And thus more cases are found.

Wether or not NNN is actively harmful is up for debate still with most studies I’ve seen leaning towards it being fine to minorly unsafe.

But the amount of studies is small and the evidence very weak.

If anything it just reinforced the growing trend to suggest younger men go get prostate exams sooner then the old wisdom suggests.

Once when I was in my early twenties, I went to a doctor, and since I had heard about people suggesting this “prostate exam” thing, I thought it would be a good idea to ask for one.

Well the doctor apparently thought I was too young to ask for a prostate exam, and so decided to go in hard and fast and without lube, presumably to “teach me a lesson.”

Well, lesson learned. I might never get a prostate exam again, and if I die in a few decades of undetected prostate cancer, it will be that doctor’s fault. But that likely won’t be recorded on any of the paperwork. Because why would it.

Not sure what the moral of the story is, but uh, maybe don’t suggest young men get theirs checked, because if their experience is anything like mine then they might never get it checked again.

I understand it may have been many years ago now, but that’s basically a cut and dry guaranteed malpractice suit. Especially if you were injured from it. That doctor could and possibly would have been completely banned from practicing medicine on anyone for pulling something like that.

Not to minimize your experience, but, just saying. That’s NOT the norm. You were abused by your doctor and there would have been legal consequences for it if you followed up.

It wasn’t my regular doctor. I don’t even remember where it was, or the doctor’s name. And it would honestly just make things worse for me if I were to try to do anything about it now. It’s not gonna fix my asshole, but telling everyone I know that my asshole is wrecked isn’t going to earn me any sympathy where I live.

At the time, I had no frame of reference. I probably just thought “Fuck man, prostate exams hurt!” Even if I tried reporting it, who would believe me? Over a doctor’s word? Please. And that’s without counting the stigma and embarrassment I would have felt at the time.
