today is shit compared to 90’s split screen at your friends house, or hot seat single player games as a group, in the same room. or walking to the arcade to check out top scores and compete with others IN PERSON
sitting in a room by yourself clicking dopamine triggering feedback loops all day on a discord server with fellow addicts is a fucking LONERfest disguised as entertainment. these modern games are deisgned to extract as much profit as possible from the user and the user doesn’t even OWN the fucking game. how can you defend that? fucking shill?
were living through a time. in person group video gaming will come back one day. we almost had it with pokemon go in 2016 but Niantic shat the bed
Its clear to me that you’re not really worth engaging with. But I’ll basically restate my point. There are a ton of really great games out there; you’re playing the wrong ones.
It Takes Two and Split Fiction. Two excellent split screen games that came out from one studio within the last 5 years.
Factorio. One of the best single player games I’ve ever played. There is multiplayer co-op but that’s not really the point of the game.
Peak, RV There Yet, and other games in the “friend slop” category. They’re not the best games ever but they’re pretty enjoyable and I play some of these at home with my kids, steamdeck vs PC. They’re just fun games.
Tape to Tape. I havent played it yet because it’s not quite my type of game, but it’s a roguelike hockey game that does local multiplayer (its not split screen if you don’t split the screen right?) or single player.
Bopl battle. This is kind of an obscure oddity but my son was playing it for a while. Its sort of an arena battle game like smash bros but different (of course). Supports not local multiplayer (like smash bros) or online play.
Battle Bit. It’s kind of semi-abandoned now which makes me sad, but it was a battlefield style shooter which was simply amazing for a brief period in time.
Age of Empires II DE. I hesitate to put this in here, but Microsoft reworked the original game a while back so it runs properly on modern computers and gave it just a little bit of a graphics improvement without killing the spirit of the original.
Minecraft. It’s still good even if it’s mostly seen as a kids game. Supports split screen still but that has always been on consoles only.
These are just the good games I’ve been playing over the last few years that come to mind. There is a lot of trash out there but there are also a lot of gems
Theres a whole world of gaming outside of the competitive gaming scene that’s doing great.
