Okay, so I tried Tuta and found the UI clunky and buggy. I tried Mailbox.org and their billing is a mess and they took my money without crediting the account. *(I have a pending ticket, we’ll see what they said.)
I do have a proton mail account, but I haven’t given them $ yet because of… well you know. Sadly, out of the three I’ve tried their product is the best.
Wondering what to check out next. I really want to ditch the G but I’m evaluating services before I jump off the ledge this time.

Honestly, bring on the down votes but Proton is a massive, massive improvement over google. Bring your own domain into it and then you can switch providers at a later time hassle free if they do something annoying enough to warrant the switch.
Ive seen the hate, I agree; fuck the CEO, but compared to google it is wildly the better the better choice
What exactly do you mean by “bring your own domain into it”. How does this work?
Look for an email provider that supports an email address with custom domains. Then you buy a domain of your choosing (can be as little as $5 for the year). e.g. if I get the domain www.craziman.co.uk, then I can take that to my mail provider and my email can be edgelord@craziman.co.uk. Or make it a catch all address… So any email sent to <anything>@craziman.co.uk gets sent to my inbox. So I can make up any alias I want. If I sign up for an account I can input my email as insurance@craziman.co.uk. then in the future if I get marketing emails sent to this address then I k ow who sold my personal information and I can easily block all emails to insurance@craziman.co.uk
https://proton.me/support/custom-domain You buy a domain, use that for your proton email address with the above, then if you switch to something else thats not proton, yoymu just deregister it and bring it with you to the next one. No changing logins, no changing email addresses with everything. Just a smooth port.
