Portal and TF2.
Dota 2 is e-sports shite and most people who get sucked into it don’t realize how much they’re giving up before it’s too late.
Same goes for Counter-strike, especially the newer ones. The older ones used to be a bit more fun.
Half life is a pretty mediocre shooter. Guns feel like wet-noodles, story and characters are bland. The series’ real value is that it’s a tech demo for Valve’s game engine.
I’m just saying this because it feels like these games only get praise so people assume they’re good without even playing them.
Everyone wants Valve to make more games, but looking at their track record it seems like they made the right choice by ducking out.
Whoever is responsible for the games I liked is probably long gone.
L4D2 was the shit.
100% my favorite multiplayer game ever. I thought it was so fun
The asymmetrical game play worked so well.
I mean, if your opinion is that valve shouldn’t make games because you think that counter strike and half-life are mediocre; your opinion is clearly out of touch as these are some of the most highly rated games of all time…
You are welcome to your opinion, but not many others share it.
This seems mostly to be a post about how you have trouble getting into new experiences
Yea calling HL bland is… certainly a take.
Perhaps it’s just the effect of hindsight, but both of them were definitely revolutionary for the time and still hold up to this day.
When did you play Half-Life 1, and have you not played Portal 2? You can also not enjoy games without resorting to conspiracy theories like “no one actually played them”.
Probably didn’t play Alex either. Mostly sounds like someone that just wants to be contrarian.
tbf Alyx was probably played by way less people because of the hardware requirements.
I can safely say that those hardware requirements were a necessary evil to get the one of a kind experience from it though. Even if you use a mod to play it on a flat screen, it isn’t the same at all.
I’m not criticising, but it is hurdle.
Oh for sure. I’m just a fan of the VR magic :)
That was the game that made me a believer. I played it on an OG Quest (on a 3090) and then immediately bought an Index.
VTOL VR is a really good example of how to do controls/UI in VR (and a fun flight sim if you’re into that kind of thing but don’t have DCS-level attention span)
Alyx on a good graphics card with a good headset will make you understand what VR could possibly become.
The first time your brain clicks from ‘I’m looking at a video screen in a headset’ to ‘I’m standing in a sewer’ is pretty staggering.
Valve has a lot of problems but since they’re a private company they aren’t as rabidly suicidal as others. The og catalog is good but l4d2 was trash on release and took them making proto steam workshop and several maps to get that goodwill back. Shame their upper leadership is crazy and loves child gambling
I personally like all of them. Team Fortress 2, I played CS 1.6, CSGO, Portals, L4Ds and Dota used to be better years ago. I heard they made Dota easier and less competitive. Its been a while since I played but I played with some good players back in the day.
If you don’t like, thats okay. There’s many popular games that dont resonate with me.
Under one day old account moment
I’m a Half-Life/Portal kind of player.
I couldn’t get into Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike and Left 4 Dead. Those games seemed to require sharp attention spans of which I don’t have for.
You could’ve constructed, I don’t know, a better thought-out opinion. What are you, 15?
