Skip the gift cards, go straight to cash.
Same here … if I’m gifting to someone under the age of about 8 years old, I’ll them a little toy and some cash … anyone older than that is just getting straight cash.
I’m not spending time to try to figure out what people like or dislike or whether or not they’re following some latest trend … take my cash and do what you want with it … and for teens, they combine all the cash they get and get one big thing they want which works out best for them.
I’m not spending time to try to figure out what people like
Sort of the entire point of gift giving.
Which I understand and appreciate … any other time of year or maybe on birthdays, I’ll take a bit of time to try to remember what the person likes and what gift they might enjoy. Usually, we’ll be doing something and the person will mention something like ‘I like that’, ‘I wish I had that’ or something … then it’s easy to just buy the thing and gift them that shortly after.
But during Christmas, it’s really hard to try to figure out what a bunch of different people like or not like … it usually ends up that you’ll mess up on most people and get it right with a few. Which is why I settled on just cash.
Yeah great… another gift card to stow away in a corner somewhere for that one time you want to use it. But then when you could use it, you forgot that you had a gift card in the first place, so it will just lay there and expire, which is exactly what gift card sellers want, it’s their business model.
I’d rather just have cash. Or if it’s one of those “experience” gift cards, just take me out to do it with you. It’s much more fun with the person that gives the gift anyways.
So many giftcard scams. Much better to give cash
Probably doesn’t want to pay his elves anymore. Layoffs and AI incoming. Santa’s profits must go up.
The idea of capitalist Santa is haunting. But the idea of capitalism is haunting also
Less wastes, same cost. Or, just make some food and skip the gift part for most people, and give cash to those who deserves/needs it. There’s no point in swapping gift card of roughly similar values except making more waste and forcing buying stuff at specific places.
And not to mention:
- Plastic waste
- That stupid glue/adhesive that may/may not come off the card easily
- Remembering to bring it to the shop of the off chance you may go to that store
- Remembering to use them before they expire
- Using the whole amount without overspending to cover the difference
(Even people leaving behind a couple dollars or cents on a gift card is just straight up profit for a company)
Why would Santa have stockings above his fire place?
Plausible deniability:
- For anyone thinking he’s Santa
- For insurance agency thinking he committed an arson based insurance fraud
Give me cash. If you wanna give me money don’t give me money with limitations (sometimes money that expires).
Gift cards are free profit to corporations, a significant fraction never gets used, it’s pure profit for them.
Yeah, same here. I just want the day off and getting to do what I want. Please 🙏
Do I get $100 bill inside mine?
$20 Arby’s gift card is all you get.
Coal mines are closed, huh?
