Most definitely. Cashing in on all this nostalgia-baiting!

Malcolm in the Middle, Futurama, King of the Hill

      Add this to the pile!

Of course! These mindless, soulless cash grabs never don’t hold up or cheapen the original creative product.

Everybody relax, the guy who has since gone on to be responsible for Star Trek Discovery surely couldn’t fuck this up…

I stopped watching after the second season (I think?), when they abruptly switched streaming services here in Australia to Paramount+ (because fuck that noise, I wasn’t paying for another service just to watch one show).

But I remember that first season being quite good, and a great entry into the franchise for newcomers like myself who’s only other exposure to Trek was through the JJ Abrams films.

I’m assuming this view would be considered heresy amongst the wider Trek fanbase?

I’m of the opinion that nu trek is the word drek in sci-fi. TNG, DS9, TOS, hey all had great things to say, they’re were awesome shows that made you think

VOY abd ENT we’re hit and miss, especially Voyager was way more popcorn, but still at least it looked and felt like star Trek.

Then came discovery which was just hilariously bad in all respects.

Star Trek Picard almost outright ruined TNG for me, I watched TNG at least once a week and I forced myself through Picard, they said it would get better, it just got worse and worse. I haven’t watched a single episode of TNG since, it’s been years now.

If you want to watch good modern star Trek, watch “the Orville”, it’s exactly what star Trek TNG would be rebooted for 2020. Made by a huge star trek fan, it really REALLY gets close to the point that it’s just actual star Trek.

Fuller left Discovery well before the show made it to air, and many of his contributions were changed after his departure. He ultimately had very little to do with the disaster Discovery turned out to be.
