Do you have a list of movies, games and whatnot to pirate this year?
I know I do, something to make the holidays a little more cheery since budgeting appears to be tight. I need something to make me somewhat happy.
Muppets Christmas Carol
The muppets family Christmas is a great one too.
It’s like a cross over of all Jim Henson properties.
I was like Leo pointing at the screen the entire time.
Great movie.
Stranger things
PS2 games. I modded a PS2 as a gift for a friend.
What’s the go to for PS2 mods these days?
Hell yeah, the PS2 has an insanely large library of games!
Still holds the record of the most games that have been physically produced for it.
My VPN software is being shitty and constantly disconnects, paid $70 bucks for this crap and I cannot find a damn solution. PIA if anyone is interested, and welcome to better options or insights to why I’m having this problem.
I used PIA for about two months about half a decade ago. It was pure agony.
I’m enjoying Mullvad.
So crazy to hear this, I literally recommend PIA to everyone who asks. It’s cheap and hasn’t given me issues in 8 years of using it.
Plus it actually supports port forwarding still, unlike mullvad, unfortunately.
I have PIA and haven’t had a single issue.
And yes. I stick with it because unlike Mullvad, PIA hasn’t pussied out (yet) and remove port forwarding
I’m a pretty low skill user admittedly, I only just figured out how to set up Jellyfin on my media server. My situation is pretty simple for now, but if I end up needing a feature I don’t get, I’ll rethink my options.
Ah gotcha, no worries.
You can get away without port forwarding if the Linux ISO you’re trying to get has a lot of peers who DO have port forwarding. But your speed could be slower because of it. And if you want a more obscure ISO that doesn’t have a lot of support, doesn’t have a lot of peers, then your speed will likely suffer, and might not be able to download anything at all.
It’s something to research. If you don’t like PIA, proton also has port forwarding 👍
Ohhh that’s good to know… do they block p2p traffic?
I don’t know about proton, I don’t think they do. PIA works fine also
That’s a bummer. I’ve had PIA for almost 8 years straight, it’s been rock solid. I can count on one hand the number of issues I’ve had with them.
Granted, their headless Linux program, piactl, is finicky and not well documented. But once you get it dialed in, configured right, it just works.
Use it on my phone, laptop, several connections open at once, no problems 🤷♂️
Edit: Just read the second half of your comment. What’s your problem exactly? Maybe I’ve ran into it before, no promises haha
I can go into more detail after work but if you Google PIA keeps disconnecting, I have tried basically every fix that doesn’t involve regedit or cmd. I’m using the windows GUI, you think it’d be somewhat idiot proof. I have my torrent client tied to the virtual adapter as well so the torrent crashes every time it drops.
That sucks. Unfortunately I’ve never run it in Windows. I’ve run mostly Linux on everything for years now, I’m down to one never-used Windows desktop, and a VM on proxmox that I keep up to run a handful of critical windows-only programs.
I’m not sure I’d be much help to you
Whatever the *arr stack provides me with.
It’s actually insane how convenient the arrs and some import lists make things.
I open Plex, there’s content to watch. If it’s good, that’s great! If it’s bad, I give up halfway and delete it. The best part is it’s stuff I never would have deliberately sought out so I see heaps of random interesting content I would never have picked at Blockbuster / the cinema / whatever the front page of whatever streaming service I had was promoting.
Arr + Overseerr keeps my family very happy. There’s always something to watch.
Interesting. So you have *arr set to auto-download from certain lists and see it in Plex for the first time, as options? What kind of lists? How do you cull content you don’t end up liking so it doesn’t fill up your server?
I’m still waiting for Zootopia 2 to come to streaming. I got a theater recording, but would love a higher quality rip for quality. This is just Sonic 3 all over again for me.
I would watch it on my parents d+ account when it drops, but I ain’t giving them any more attention then I have to. Especially after the AI debacle going on between them and openai.
I pirate monthly every IMDB 6+ movie and series that got dubs in my language and send an HDD to my father, who only has a cheap cellphone internet plan.
You’re a good son
That’s adorable lol
How many movies is that per month?
Last month it was about 50 movies and it was a high number - I also don’t download horror or Hallmark-like stuff.
Thx!
Do you automate that or just check the list manually every once in a while?
Manually. There is this group I follow, every end of the month I check what they uploaded throughout the month (their posts have the IMDB score).
Nothing specific, but I was very pleased with how easily I could download some movies from jellyfin to my laptop before my flight home.
Nice try, Officer, but I’m not falling for it.
Youtubes fresh battle with adblockers has had me on a 6 month music video rip spree, with no signs of slowing down.
Right now Jdownloader2 plus a browser extension to copy cookie info to the clipboard is working half decently.
Once I started, I realized I can do a lot more with the videos now that they’re off youtube. No more ASR subtitles, I can time lyrics myself using Gaupol. I’ve also figured out how to pack the new subtitle, as well as original thumbnails and YT descriptions into the video using mkvtoolnix. Now a single video file can be dropped into jellyfin and fully provide its own local Metadata.
It’s going well and I’m not slowing down at all. Fuck you, youtube.
the nightmare before christmas
Fallout. Isn’t the new season starts airing this week ?
IIRC release is in two days, but definitely this week.
Whatever series I follow will be automatically downloaded with sonarr. But I recently downloaded Star Trek Voyager, I almost finished season 1 so I’ll probably continue watching that during Christmas.
NGL I kind of have everything I need except time. Gonna probably try to make space for animating in Blender, which unfortunately makes no sense to pirate.
There’s plenty of paid tutorials out there. But that’s the one thing I’m happy to pay for. That and independent or small team software.
You can always try!
probably nothing. AAA games are not worth the bandwidth, even free.
haven’t watched a movie in years because it’s all garbage.
tv shows are even worse then movies.
I just don’t consume media anymore. it’s all slop. I only support Indy developers by buying now, and watch streamers talk and play games. that’s it. they deserve my money, and my attention. not companies.
Personally I find it boring to watch streamers talk and play games. Plus they go on like two or three movie lengths of time per stream. It’s never been my form of entertainment. I only have watched Let’s Plays on YouTube, mainly because the time is more constrained per video where it doesn’t make me feel like I have to watch some 7 hour stream that makes me have to make all the time for it.
I remember once of trying to view a video that was 6 hours long, it took me over a month to finish it from beginning to end. Simply because there’s other things I’d like to see and do during that entire timeframe. I’m not going to make a schedule just to watch some uninspiring dude attempt to be entertaining. Plus the whole game streaming scene has brought about its own level of controversies and drama.
I believe the downvotes are coming from the fact that you just do not curate your content. Don’t expect yourself to try and watch everything and play everything with the end result of enjoyment. I find it hard to be convinced that there isn’t anything out there for you to enjoy that can be provided from top-level companies of any kind.
It’s what always bothered me anyways whenever I hear that people say “oh there’s nothing to listen to anymore, all music sucks” only to find out that the only thing they listen to is the radio. Of course FM radio is not going to play music you’d like to hear, that’s not what they’re designed to do. Get yourself Sirius XM or something to explore music, whatever it takes, just stop relying on FM Radio.
So no, I’m not gonna buy it that there is absolutely and truly nothing out there for you to enjoy that is provided from levels of entertainment. People just have a curating issue and are expectant of certain companies to spoon-feed them what they want. It takes effort.
I don’t understand the down votes. People do not agree with AAA games being shit? Because they are successful at being boring expensive bug simulators at most. Or they don’t agree with all the Hollywood slop being the same old boring feel-good happy ending shit? Or the fact that you pay indie devs who actually make proper content worth it’s money, as this is in a piracy group?
I really don’t get it. I totally agree with you.
If you want something good to watch, look into European films and series. There’s a Danish-Swedish detective series called Brøn (the Bridge) for example. It’s a really good. Or Wallander. Also Gaspar Noé makes really good movies. Just prepare to feel sick after, they’re really horrible and heavy. The British series Utopia (2013) is also really nice. Often European producers don’t follow the standard boring and predictable Hollywood formula.
Don’t steal from honest people. Steal from predatory companies and asshole billionaires instead. It’s the pirate code!
pirating isn’t even stealing, since nothing is actually lost. only potentials which were never gonna happen from me anyways.
I assume the downvotes are because of the movies/tv shows and I quazi insulted things people embassy enjoy.
to be fair, the best movies I’ve s een and do rewatch, are movies from countries not western.
my top 2 movies are Battle Royal, and Death Note (the human one, not the animes). subtitles are 100% fine with me. the. along came that hunger games thing and people went wild, meanwhile I found it bleh and rewatched battle royal again, and again and again. I do like movies, just VERY little past 2010.
I will for sure checking your movie recommendations, I’m not against movies and such just everything ‘western’ is bleh…it’s all the same vibes every single time.
these days, all my media is from small content creators or Indy devs. I pirate way less then I ever have and buy almost everything. I have no objection to pirating since it’s not technically theft, but I do want Indy devs to be appreciated so I buy.
I’d say the biggest studio/dev I buy from is Team17. never seen a game I didn’t really enjoy by them. simple, nothing predatory and fun.
AAA is shit, but even in the sea of slop, there is still good movies/TV.
And audiobooks exist.
I personally haven’t found much. I always gravitate back to movies like battle royal, death note etc… best western movie I love watching is short circuit.
another poster gave some euro recommendations I will be checking out. I’m not against media movies or whatever, just none of them are interesting. it’s all the same general premise for me.
I guess the last tv show I liked was that superhero one with the wrestling guy. cena was his name I think. it was edgy and pushed boundaries. I appreciate that.
I understand. Sturgeons law applies. Wading through trash is an issue.
And I think you mean ‘peacemaker’. It is good, looking forward to season 3. Looks like you have a curation problem.
What is the best source for audiobooks?
anonamouse
I have heard audiobookbay is good these days
That’s also kinda how media has just changed in the past decade.
