Discord’s push to verify users through government ids shows how safety mandates can quietly turn into systems of surveillance

The only platform I won’t use no matter what. (It’s already blocked in Türkiye.)

I have a nice community built on discord, as soon as they announced the age verification thing I made a post.

if they pop up that for me, I’m not coming back to discord, here is other ways to contact me. I added a matrix server and signal chat, etc as a list of alternatives.

I’m only on discord to follow one singular fanfic community

If they pull this I’ll be deleting the app immediately after.

Technically, safety mandates ARE systems of surveillance.

Discord in particular is a huge sore spot for me so this sucks :/. It’s one of the few services I can’t just leave

im the opposite. I was mainly only on for play on discord and I did not have much time for that. I like won’t move to a federated version unless it was really mature with rpg communities.

Yeahhh, unfortunately I have friends that I can’t talk to anywhere else and won’t move. I’m not in the UK so it’s not an immediate concern but it seems to slowly be coming for everyone

My producer already dropped Discord in 2020. We said bye-bye to that social credit score-infested, digital ID-ridden slopfest. It actually was bad from the beginning.

Come home to Nerimity, where no NSFW is allowed (and thus, no age verification): https://nerimity.com/

If people ask where you came from, go ahead and mention me (I’m Mugita Sokio:7796 on there)
