The US has become unreliable, but considering China as reliable is a grave mistake nevertheless. Beijing will engage in coercion as soon as it can (as it always does), and the propaganda machinery will then use Trump’s move for vindication. The tankies here will tell everyone that China’s coercion is justified because the US did it, too. Whataboutism as we know it.

Canada needs to expand trade with Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and other democratic countries.

I think that’s the other thing they’re doing. In the meantime, at least China isn’t treating trading partners like they owe their existence to its largesse like The Idiot.

Trump would threaten McDonald’s with 1000 % tariffs for not having his happy Meal ready when he orders.

    He’s not worth listening to

“Economically illiterate pedophile gives Canada another good reason to make a deal with China”

    Fixed that headline.

If anyone isn’t expecting this kind of reaction to anything they do, they have no business being in government. Trump’s made it clear this is his go-to move. I think other countries need to make it they or go-to response to sell off $100m in Treasury bonds as a response to the threat, and promise to multiply that number by 10 of the tariffs actually happen.

Yeah basically. Like never give him what he wants, he will just continue call you a dumbass and then claim it was all him and he’s the greatest.

Not saying never give him what he wants. If he wants to engage in international diplomacy like a Big Boy, by all means go for it. The second he reverts to his bullying nature, sell off another $100m in treasury bonds.

Bullies only respond to power, and this one has the memory of a rock. Has to constantly be reminded that he’s not the only one with a stick to swing around.

Before anyone says, but wrecking the economy will hurt them to!” Yeah, I get that. It’s that reasonable thinking that Trump’s admin are banking on when they think wholesale tariffs will let them do whatever they want. This is where we are. A big international game of chicken. Unfortunately the biggest wimp in the game also has the most powerful military and largest economy. So there’s that. Still, he doesn’t seem to care about consequences, and as long as anyone on the other side of the negotiating table does, he’ll always have the upper hand.

I mean, yeah, I guess what I should have said is: don’t give into his demands and don’t acquiesce to something in the hopes that ‘now it will be normal’

Wrecking the economy will hurt them eventually, but not until everyone else is dead, rich twats are too insulated for something small to effect them, and they will usually even profit from things in the short term.

The rest of your third point… no notes. It’s a frightening disaster.

Not at all, I had just completely written off this administration doing anything in good faith or coming to the table as adults, but your point stands if something insane happens like that, then yes, totally! Hahahaha

Didn’t he try to make a deal with China? So now threatens others for being successful
