[a character looks sad in front of a sad city, under the sunset]
Things aren’t looking great…
It sucks when the state kills people
Wish we could do something about it

[the character is now in front of their TV, showing ICE agents surrounding a bleeding corpse on the floor]
Wait… this time they killed WHITE people
This means it could happen to me too?!

There’s always an increase in volume after an incident like this. The more visible it is, the greater the increase.

If you’re upset about an increase in momentum, then you’re kinda shooting the movement in the foot and that makes me question what your intentions are. Maybe you simply haven’t thought it through; I’m not gonna assume you’re a bad-faith actor planted to disrupt the resistance on so little evidence.

The problem is that this comic paints with a very broad brush, and it kinda leaves any white person who’s been actively protesting with no choice but to say “Well fuck me, then.”

Again, if your reaction to a comic pointing out that these atrocities have gone on longer than just the two latest killings is to take it personally and get defensive over it, if your reaction is “Well fuck me, then”, I think that says more about you than it does about the comic.

I’m simply pointing out that people have been aware of the problem and upset about it for a long time. But that’s inconvenient to the narrative you’re trying to push, so you keep ignoring it whenever I mention that.

The problem with the comic isn’t that it pointed out that there have been more than just two murders. The problem is that it painted an entire race of people (who have diverse worldviews and opinions) with the same broad brush, and uses that generalization to create a strawman argument, i.e. “white people don’t care when non-whites get murdered,” and you continue to refuse to acknowledge that not only is that counter-factual, but it’s also counter-productive (and racist).

And then you not-so-subtly insinuate that I must be racist if I have a problem with it? You’re so transparent.
