money donations are better than in-kind donations (food, clothing, goods, &c.)

the social services organizations like the food and clothing banks have relationships that allow them to purchase at or below wholesale prices. their dollar stretches far further than most of ours can.

which is not to say in-kind donations are not wanted, just if you have a choice, give them the money rather than your goods. use your goods yourself. don’t buy stuff just to give it to them. let them buy the stuff. they know what they need. if it’s old and worn out, something you’re thinking of throwing away, just throw it away. don’t use the food bank/clothing drive as a trash can. that’s pretty low.
