I don’t live in the USA, I live in the Netherlands, infrastructure here is very good, public transport-wise too. It’s just that a train can’t go to every little village that exists. There is a bus, but it only comes and goes once an hour (which is entirely reasonable for my village), which severely affects the travel time.

The problem with this is that they don’t solve the same problem.

I use the train for almost all my transportation, trains are amazing.

However, the train doesn’t bring me to my front door. The train doesn’t bring me to my exact destination.

A self-driving car would save me at least 45 minutes during my commutes (one way), purely because of the flexibility.

The fact it runs on profit is not the deciding factor in this case. If the RAM manufacturers had more capacity, they would profit even more. The main problem is that those factories are huge investments that you would need to commit until the finish-line successfully without going bankrupt before you will be able to produce anything. China can take this risk because state funds and actual geopolitical justifications. Western countries can say to themselves too easily that they can keep buying it from Asia, which causes no countries or investors to want to commit to a similar project.

I’m sorry, but capitalism didn’t really exist up until industrialism. Before then, it was mainly feudalism.

100 years ago a big part of the young generation was socialist too. Look how much changed.
