  • I think an additional factor is the early comment effect. Early comments get more visibility and engagement, so if you want to push your goals, you can post a comment if you get there early enough. If you don’t get there quick enough and there’s already hundreds or more, then there’s no point in adding your own, if your goal is actually to help your political project.

Same reason I hypothesize that political extremists are more likely than other people to sort their social media posts by “new” instead of anything else.

  • Off topic, but of all the algorithmic niches someone can occupy, I think the cusp of cottagecore and tradwife is one of the most interesting. I noticed some time ago just from being a Tolkein fan, that people were trying to claim Tolkein for conservative Christianity, really pushing hard on the Eru Iluvitar (sp?) aspect of his cosmology.

Do you get a lot of religious recommendations from your algorithms? Do you notice any particular trends in the permaculture community?

  • While I agree that it is very easy for republicans to masquerade as progressives, especially on the internet, I think that’s actually not a particularly effective form of challenge due to how quickly it derails conversations.

By instead remaining focused on specific issues and policies we can help keep attention where it belongs–on the real life impacts that our elected officials’ policy positions can have on our real lives. The fact of the matter is that Harris does have some genuine progressive chops. While she’s certainly imperfect as a politician, she’s no Bill Clinton-style moderate. We do have her Senate voting record after all, where progressive monitoring groups generally rated her very favorably.
