Great. Only issue so far has been a specific VPN for work which does not have a Linux installer and no drag and drop replacement for Snagit. But that’s just work stuff, everything on the private side works flawlessly for me.

You can absolutely boil wheat, so I am not sure I follow…
Sure, but you can see how they’re vaguely related, right?
I was laughing at all these weird dishes when it occurred to me that the fruit-based ones sound a lot like a dish here in Denmark with fresh fruit and ‘råcreme’ which is egg yolks and sugar whipped with vanilla, then gently mixed with whipped cream.
It’s delicious.

It makes little sense to think of language outside of communities, so if a speech community uses a word in a certain way then it’s correct in that context.
Of course, most states find it useful to establish an official variant. It is usually based on whatever the ruling class speaks, and is claimed to be ‘correct’, but there are no objective linguistic criteria which make it possible to say that Parisian French is more correct than e.g. Haitian French.
Right, thanks for clarifying 🙂 I agree, don’t use extra virgin for frying. Still, I don’t think it gives off bitter flavours whatever you do unless you treat it really bad.
In Denmark, we traditionally cook using butter, but I like to use whatever fits the dish I am doing.
If the whole Mediterranean region cooks with oil that way they’re not “off flavours”, are they? Then they’re just the flavours of the regional cuisine.
If you let olive oil get hot enough to hit the smoke point for a sofritto you’re doing it wrong…
Don’t be a cunt, broski
Watching from Scandinavia it’s pretty bizarre to see all these weirdos appropriate our culture. Like, the vikings were by all accounts not particularly racist or race minded.
They were traders and occasionally pirates who loved poetry and storytelling and fighting amongst themselves. They’d go somewhere and settle and just freely intermingle with the local culture to form hybrid cultures like Norman, Russian, etc.

As the admin, thanks for using it and spreading the word 🙂 if anyone feels like setting up a local instance let me know, I will point a subdomain (like aarhus.brugt-bazar.dk) your way and federate 😁
You can literally just upload a library of documents to github or another repo service like codeberg. That’s basically what a code project is, a bunch of files.

Well, yes, most people want computers to be unnoticable and boring. I agree, we need more boring tech that just does a job and doesn’t bother us. That said, plenty of people find self-hosting to be fun - your SO and mine excepted, of course.

Well, she’s 12 and likes to play roblox and do funny voice edits on her videos. As I am sure you can guess, it’s stuff like one-click voice modulation which is the big selling point of CapCut for her. So I am guessing ease of use and the ability to at least create and save audio editing presets and do texts and so on is paramount.
I agree that this is not really a need that foss tries to fill which is ok. We tried kdenlive but it seems a little advanced for her needs and wants. I tried Vidcutter and it seems a little too simple (feature-wise, the usability was nice).
We just took a look at ShotCut which seems alright, but I think I am more into it than she is. I hope I can convince her to take a look at it. Thanks!
Point made :D
I mean, yes. But on the other hand, I’ve removed usb-connected media without using that button thousands of times and never had an issue. I’m obviously not doing it when I am writing to or reading from the medium.
Either way, thanks again for taking the time to respond :)
Sure, I mean I am used to reading (and writing) manuals and documentation, so I usually go that route first when I know where to look. And your answer was helpful. Anyway, what are some authoritative ressources I should consult concerning these fundamental concepts?
cheers!
Don’t do that.
Coming from non-linux, it’s not usually a problem. But now I know better :)
fstab is just a config file so the computer knows what drives and storage volumes its supposed to have when it boots.
You can add and remove drives without ever editing fstab. Plugging something in should give you the option to mount it in your file explorer, and in the same place you should be able to “eject” it before disconnecting the actual cable.
I know that, but this particular drive was meant to be permanently mounted and accessible, which is why I added it to fstab. I am removing it because it’s damaged and i have to replace it with something which isn’t to act as a permanent drive for the server.
Thank you for your help :)
The Roman Empire really lasted from 27BC to 1453, the west was a dump when it fell, almost all the ressources and money and population were in the east anyway.
