For once I’m #1 in something 🥳
I have no tech background, and I am just getting into creating a media server. I started with an old secondhand Synology NAS, which developed a power issue within a month and no chance of returning it or getting it covered by warranty.
My current plan is to get another Synology NAS (new with extended warranty this time), along with a spare HDD enclosure so I can have an extra layer of redundancy, finally set up Jellyfin, and then I want to build a Pihole. At that point I won’t need much more self hosting or networking tricks until further notice.
Still have no idea what I’m doing.
Beer is fairly well solved enough by now that, if you have a good nose and a brew calculator site, you can guess your way to 80% accuracy for any given beer at a first try, and by the time I’ve iterated much further than that, I’ve arrived at something more interesting anyway.
If you’re a company that sells beer, your business model is more based on people’s lack of interest in that creative work than it is around protecting any “secret recipe”.
It’s a lot of work, and at the end of the day you might just end up leaving a you-shaped hole in the data. Privacy is a great thing to be mindful of as part of a larger understanding of modern media literacy, but it’s not all you should be about. Preach it when contextually appropriate, find a level you’re able to live with, and keep growing
It’s a moot point. There’s no political appetite for such a ban, and those vested interests are fully entrenched in our way of life. They have to be done away with by other means, if at all
I might be in favor of banning for-profit social media, or at least regulating it more firmly and protecting consumers, and keeping people like Zuckerberg from using it to influence elections… Somehow. If that’s not practical, I’ll revert to supporting a ban.
Putting Mint on an old iMac soon actually. Been a while since I got to use Linux.
