  • One might need to “underpin” their backstory a bit before wandering into a church and spitting game. Sounds like a lot of effort…almost like you should go to church for your whole life, first. Of course, Anon would be the same person - the church girls would also be rejecting him and he’d be crying about it - then people would tell him to just go to a bar.

The moral of the story, of course, being don’t go to bars by yourself, eavesdrop, then cry when somebody you don’t know doesn’t want to spend time alone with some creep who doesn’t even know how to make small talk. Buddy would have proposed on the date.

  • Yeah. The way it seems to function is Reddit itself has automated moderating…and the mods have almost absolute control over their own subs. Reddit itself doesn’t check for ban evasion…unless a mod requests it….so the sub mods have another layer of moderation that activates additional automated moderation. The very obvious problem with this is that too many mods are petty little dictators and know how to exploit the automated moderation system: ie there’s nothing preventing mods from taking note that a person uses two accounts, ban the account that person is not using when they want to prep for a site ban - then trigger the autoban to get rid of a user. The bans some subs give out are always horribly uneven…and now I see why. I’ve seen this scenario play out several times due to ideology or personal grudges, rather than the breaking of Reddit rules.

Short story long…”ban evasion” appears to be a gift given to sub mods to use at their pleasure.

  • Oh man…awhile back that happened to me: I complained to a mod in PM about racist posts in their sub - on my desktop account…then used the app on my smartphone because I wasn’t at home. It was different accounts because I’d forgotten my password at some point…but I didn’t actually care which account was what - I never cared about Karma and didn’t differentiate between them.

Little did I know the petty mod had given me a one-day ban for “harassment”…and both accounts got banned for “evading”. Back then Reddit admins weren’t swamped (I guess?) and the ban was overturned right away.

I think if that happened today it would have been an automatic autoban. It really feels like a set up. Why are they letting you have multiple accounts if they associate them with one person? What it feels like is Reddit given scammers tools that end up fucking over normal people.

  • I left Reddit for good a few weeks ago when I got a 3 day autoban for directly quoting Worf from Star Trek…in response to a post asking for quotes. I think it was an autoban because a couple years previous I got an auto-warning for quoting a punk song in a punk sub…appeal rejected.

I appealed the 3 day ban…but no idea if it would have been accepted because I deleted my account and the Reddit app after 2 days when I snapped out of my Reddit addiction and finally realized how enshitified it’s become.

  • Just ask in a voicemail. They already know she knows about it and is trying to figure it out…they’d either answer or they wouldn’t.

Like…so much was made from a non-answer before…so she’d care at least how they answered the question, even if they didn’t answer it directly. Of they’d give her a nuke…maybe they’d give her the recipe for the olive oil. Or she’d get ghosted…and be no further behind.

Its not ruining the show or anything…it’s just a Jenga piece pulled out. Know what I mean?

  • Oh yeah…I thought it was obvious that we’re supposed to believe they’re eating the bodies. It was telegraphed by the canines trying to dig up the corpse (provided animals have a basic link to Pluribus).

I assumed the “something” she saw was a body…maybe even one she recognized, considering the room was full of bodies lol.

I’m more at the stage “where are we going with this?”…doesn’t seem like anywhere. Basic sci fi tropes, so far…even if extremely well executed. It bothers me that she didn’t just ask what the liquid was for…seems like a pretty huge plot convenience to delay exposition.

  • Agreed, I’m enjoying it and it’s definitely high quality…I’ll see it through.

This was just the first episode that had me scratching my head as to what she will and won’t ask Pluribus to do. She’ll have them transcribe her plan to “cure” them…but won’t just ask what the liquid is? It approaches a plot hole…even if it’s super interesting.

ETA: The last bit of Severance was definitely a stretch…reminded me of Maybe from Arrested Development: “Nobody will know what the hell happened, but they’ll say they like it because they don’t want to sound stupid.”

  • Me too…but we’re outliers.

SO many people who I thought were cool turned out to be morons…an alarming amount of them were radicalized in the pandemic. Even many of the people I know that think they’re devout leftists seem to feel they need to have one or more “edgy” views that cause them to caucus with radical centrists or right wingers. Like…my bi hippie friend started voting conservative because Palestine…my own lefty brother started voting conservative because of guns. Just found out a very poor ex girlfriend voted conservative because of right wing views on addiction. Then you have all the insane tankies…if you explained horshoe theory to them their heads might explode from the cognitive dissonance.
