So my familiarity with front ends is extremely limited. I’m familiar with for instance someone writes a program that links to a database, but the database is still the database. So I figured the algorithm was still the algorithm since the videos reside on YouTube’s servers. I thought all you would be changing was the appearance, but it sounds like a lot of the annoyances go away. Especially ads. I don’t really watch the ads because for a long time I used ad blockers and when they failed, I succumbed to the extortion and paid for premium. Yes I know uBlock seems to have come out on top and when the subscription ends I’ll probably go back to that. I don’t really have a problem with the interface, but I don’t really care for a lot of the other stuff so thanks for the intel.

Now if only I could get some of my favorite YouTubers to stop making their own commercials during the content.

It sounds like you’re saying all you need to do to prevent abuse of your device is to not use the device. It can’t spy on you if you leave it on the store shelf either.

I’ve seen articles talking about how Android will continue to perform functions you specifically tell it not to. How do you fix that by changing your habits?

I would agree with that. I just don’t have the level of hate for the old standard that everyone else seems to have. But as it was pointed out, this IS mildly infuriating so I can see that. My biggest complaint with it is that it is very hard to see which way it goes since the taper is subtle, especially if it’s dark.

No. As I stated,I prefer the new standard but the hate for the old standard seems a little over the top to me.

Well I like the new standard as well but the old one doesn’t feel that old to me. It strikes me as another symptom of a throw away society that no one else has any older items anymore since I have so many. I have a few power banks of different sizes, Bluetooth speakers, a bore scope,a couple of action cameras and a couple of pieces of test equipment. They haven’t died. I just assumed most other people still had some things too. But the prevalence of people hating on the older standard leads me to believe people just throw away working items because only because they performed then as old.

Anyway, that’s the basis for my comment. You do you.

Why are people so against this old standard?I have lots of perfectly useful older equipment around that uses it. Why would I just throw away old power banks and buy new ones just because it uses a different cord? I don’t get it.

Well if doesn’t mean anything because this platform is full of Linux fanboys. I want to love it for all that it is, but unfortunately every time I try it, I have the same kind of experience OP has. I’m sorry if that doesn’t fit in your world view.

Oddly, I’m trying it yet again. My laptop is old and Microsoft is trying to make it obsolete. Since I only use it in a limited fashion, I’m hoping to get away with it. Time will tell.

I got it from every experience I’ve ever had with Linux. That said not an expert, but that’s kind of the point.

This is I believe, very typical. If you just want to get in the car and go from point A to B, your only choice is Microsoft. The car will spy on you, force you to do things like visit the dealership to get the light to go off, break and require you to go to the dealership and of course buy a new one when you don’t want to.

To avoid this, you can buy a Linux car and do anything you want to…as long as you are a mechanic or are willing to become one.

I’ve always had issues with it too. You’re not alone. Thanks to Windows 11,I plan to convert my laptop to Linux and I’m hoping since I only use it lightly for a few simple tasks it will be ok. But my desktop daily driver will have to be Windows. Rock and a hard place.
