Yeah, I don’t get the “just install every update when it comes out” / “ just comply, bro” attitudes. My PC is now incapable of S3/S4 sleep without crashing thanks to a windows update a few days ago. Absolutely no way microslop gets the benefit of the doubt on anything.

This one looks cool, and I think that’s its biggest problem. It’s clearly a massive, man-made structure with no obvious purpose, yet with striking visual impact. To the hypothetical future civilization that is unaware of the dangerous nuclear waste, it basically begs to be investigated.

That usage always bugs the shit out of me, to the point that I had to refer back to English classes to figure out why. It is an adjective, but it is not a predicate adjective like it’s used here. It is an attributive adjective and has to be used in conjunction with the noun that it’s modifying.

Yeah, that tracks. So much about iOS UI/UX has gotten worse in that time, mostly by trying to “fix” things that worked just fine as they were.

Yeah, I dunno what to say besides that it happened to me twice. Probably close to 25 years ago while upgrading my 12GB HDD to a 80GB Seagate Barracuda, I decided to try running both drives together for a whopping 92GB of storage. Whatever jumper combination I tried first ended up with one of the drives not being recognized, so I tried another combination, either both master or both slave, and the control board on the 12GB drive let out the smoke and that drive was never able to be recognized again. I don’t remember exactly what happened the second time, but I know it happened twice because I felt really stupid about not learning my lesson from the first time. Not saying there couldn’t have been something else going on, but they had keyed IDE headers that couldn’t have been reversed and no other issues until I tried the incompatible jumper combination.

And if you tried to run more than one HDD and got those jumpers wrong, it would let the magic smoke out of one of your drives.

Yup, I’m super tempted to start stocking up on cheap VR games in anticipation for the Frame, but I need to see the final price and be 100% sure I’m going for it before I commit to games that I can’t otherwise play.

Fully agree: the second half of the movie does actually go somewhere with all the nonsense. The character development is fantastic, and the sci-fi actually is used as a creative way to explore self worth and interpersonal relationships.

I stand by my frustration with what comes across as gratuitous, dated feeling humor and tropes (Scott Pilgrim, Rick and Morty, “so random! XD” Internet culture), but it definitely has a lot more depth and substance than I was ready to give it credit for.

See, I didn’t hate it because it was confusing, I hated it because it felt boring and cringy. Once you get over the initial genre hopping whiplash, it’s just more generic action tropes and multiverse nonsense that had already been done to death by the time that movie came out. At the insistence of the people I was watching with, I admittedly didn’t make it past the expository bagel scene, but once I got the pulse that it was a slice-of-life drama and John Wick thrown in a blender with Rick and Morty, I didn’t mind turning it off, and I usually hate not finishing movies.

Yes HDMI forum are shitbags, but there are definitely technical advantages to HDMI. Just that I can think of, DisplayPort doesn’t have ARC (audio return for sound systems), or CEC (device can turn on TV/display, TV remote can pause movie playing on console, etc) and the max length for a DisplayPort cable is no more than 3 meters before you have to go to expensive active cables. Most of these are easy to work around for most PC setups, but if Valve wants the gabecube to easily fit into living room/TV setups, it does present a challenge.

The overwhelming majority of automatic transmissions made in the last 85 years have had torque converters, not automatically operated clutches (referring to the primary connection between motor and driveline, not torque converter lockup clutches or transmission clutch packs). Cars that use the automatic equivalent of a manual clutch pedal have really only been practically produced in the last 15 years in the form of dual wet clutch automatics.
