2 hours agoI’ve only really been tangentially aware of these for the past few years – I think I may have been recommended one of the first when it was Nintendo Fangames Direct in like 2020 – but these showcases fill me with so much joy. Someone else put together a sort-of response video to showcase a few more outside of the heavy Nintendo focus, but either way I am loving that mods, ROM hacks, and fan games are starting to see more love these days.

That actually sounds fantastic for me right now. I made a resolution this year not to buy any more games† when I have so many unplayed games in my library plus all the retro/hacks/fangames/etcetera that I’ve been playing. I’ll admit most of the time I fall back to Pokémon ROM hacks on my retromajigger, but I’d love getting to see more varied and interesting projects to try out. So many of these are just pure passion projects, too, which warms my heart a little. Thanks for the link.
† Which I did fail, but rather than completely give up I moved the goalpost to be kinder to myself and actually work towards accomplishing something: this year I’ve only spent ~$5 on games for myself, $10 if I count the copy I gifted to a friend (Dome Keeper, btw, while it was on sale, very fun roguelike would recommend)
