Get those vmwate vibes back
While I don’t think it’s as high as 90% of users, I admit I didn’t think about people who would subject themselves to Arch just to not take advantage of what Arch has to offer.
(But seriously, why would anyone choose to do this when they can just install Mint)
It’s not about Arch itself being a unique choice, it’s about how Arch looks very different from user to user because they not only had the option but the requirement to install nearly everything but the Kernel themselves.
The result is that no two Arch users end up with the same OS, just the same kernel and package manager.
Almost like the point of that OS is to know about everything that’s going on in your system because you put it all there yourself, piece by piece!
A blessing for the privacy-oriented and the people who want to learn about everything.
A curse for people who just want their computer to work.
Ah good point. I guess a future-proofed guarantee that the domain will never be used externally would be easier to use than trying to somehow configure my DNS to never update specific addresses.
Well as long as the TLD isn’t used by anyone it should work internally regardless of what ICANN says, especially if I add it to etc/hosts
Why do I care what ICANN says I can do on my own network? It’s my network, I do what I want.
They’re saying that google services are dominant and anticompetitive, but not dominant BECAUSE they’re anticompetitive.
Even if they were playing fair with competitors, they would still be #1 because they were that good. But because they weren’t okay with giving competitors a fair chance, they resorted to anticompetitive practices that hurt consumers, and now this ruling is going to hurt google in return. They could have played nice and everything would have been better for everyone, but they didn’t so here we are
Imagining this process, despite having never done 50% of the steps on the list, makes my brain imagine this:
Haven’t shot up on FOSS in over a week and the withdrawals are getting bad
If you can lose a friend over putting your foot down about what platforms you want to message them on, they’re not a good friend.
It’s the kind of sad situation where you have regrets no matter what you do. If they’re unwilling to find a different way to contact you when you leave Instagram, they’re probably unwilling to do a lot of things for you. You would regret relying on them when something actually hard happens and they leave you hanging.

Yeah, the nazi secret police is still the first thing that comes to mind when most Americans hear/see “SS” without context.
Yeah but most of the continent is under a unifying government with a shared currency (with a few exceptions, but paying in euros implies OP is still under EU jurisdiction)
Obviously nothing holds true for an entire region that won’t also hold true for the majority of the world, but I feel like businesses in countries that use the euro are FAR more likely to regularly accept payment in cash or even require cash than counties in any part of the Pacific hemisphere
In Europe it’s so much more common to use cash than card anyway, that guy was a fucking weirdo
