Are you familiar if Mindustry does this too? Afaik they had SDL somewhere in the mix
Its fairly trivial to get linux to pretend there is a display (wayland / x11 agnostic) if you ever find yourself in that situation again.

It was the application browser, and they rolled it back after the backlash.
But thats different, the issue there isn’t the text drawing, its that it isn’t meaningfully asynchronous and console drawing is typically blocking (at least on windows)
