  • Retrieving ammunition is one of those things that is, imo, similar to taking piss breaks. Like yeah, of course your character is doing it, you don’t need to track or talk about it. The only time it will ever come up is if there’s a reason it’s noteworthy. Like if you get ambushed by a dragon immediately after the fight. Okay, you lose some of your arrows because you don’t have time to pick them back up before hauling ass out of there.

Similarly, I’ve found that tracking rations and water supplies and such is usually a waste of time. If there’s a plot reason those would be serious challenges, like you’re trapped in the middle of the desert, then of course we’re going to need to get into the little details of how you’re getting food and water every day. But if you’re traveling through reasonably well populated countryside and haven’t gone more than a couple days without meeting people, you’ve got food. Even the most curmudgeonly old destitute farmer isn’t going to send a band of travelers down Completely Unpopulated Road without enough food to reach the next hub of civilization.

I can imagine it was meant as a joke

You can imagine whatever you want, but you’re wrong and also what kind of person hears an accusation of the most heinous kind of nazi bullshit and immediately jumps to defend the accused without ANY information? The only kind of person I can imagine who is so eager to defend people against accusations of nazism is a nazi.

Here’s a good summary of the situation. TL;DR: The mod in question says, “all 27 million Soviet citizens killed by the nazis deserved it.” This was 9 months after having been educated on the fact that that number includes many civilian holocaust victims. The owner of your server thinks these are completely cool views to express and not indicative of nazism. That makes the server owner a nazi in addition to the mod.

If you continue to defend this, you are also a nazi (which tracks, as you’re posting from the nazi instance)

  • Something tells me your definition of “genuine socialists” doesn’t include anarchists to begin with.

    I’m an anarchist

Anyway, if you do see any real nazi content from a db0 user, they’d be breaking instance rules so you can and should report them to the mods.

A prominent mod on dbzero said the holocaust was good because it killed communists, and db0 (the server owner) supported and defended this mod. It’s a nazi instance. Nazi instances don’t punish nazi users.

  • I don’t know how many animals are capable of suicide, but people in the middle ages definitely did it sometimes. The ways requiring the least setup are probably jumping from a high place, like a really tall tree or off a cliff. Then with the benefits of civilization, you can jump out a high window or stab yourself with a knife or other sharp object or use some rope creatively, all entirely possible in the middle ages.

If we assume that depression has always been around, the “jump off a cliff” method was probably used by the occasional caveman tbh.

  • It’s randomly generated, brute forcing it should take years.

Cool, so they use any number of exploits to simply go around the password. The point isn’t that a password is easy to get through (just like a locked door isn’t easy to get through) it is that if you’re facing a determined attacker it doesn’t matter how secure it is. If they have physical unsupervised access to your PC, you’ve already lost.

Fortunately for us all, these determined attackers do not exist. Nobody’s breaking my windows to boot up my fucking PC. The situation in which a password would help you is if someone has gone to the effort to bypass the physical security on your home, and then has no plan to deal with a password locked computer. They just take one look at it and go “welp, that’s it, everybody crawl back through the window then, watch the glass shards” Instead of picking up the entire PC and walking off with it, or yanking out the hard drives, or booting into their own preferred OS on a USB, or whatever else would actually happen if these made up attackers were real.

  • If the government wants to fabricate a reason to prosecute me they’ll just bring some drugs to my house, the idea that they would go in with the plan to plant incriminating files on my computer (instead of just lying that there were incriminating files / showing a completely fake computer???) and then be foiled by a fucking password box and go “damn, he’s too clever for us, I guess we have to let him go” is just BEYOND ridiculous

  • Nobody lives with you?

My grandmother, who has no interest in my computer.

    Or visits you?

    No

You don’t use a laptop ever?

    No

What if someone does get through your locks?

What if someone guesses your password? Why don’t you keep your computer in a custom built safe bolted to the floor? There’s always another level of security you could hypothetically require, I just live in reality where the truth is no one is touching my computer.

there’s basically no downside to it.

It takes a second or so every time (sometimes a couple of seconds, I’m not always booting my computer with the intent to type shit immediately) which adds up over time. Sometimes I mistype, wasting 10+ seconds. And the benefit of this mild inconvenience is nothing.

  • Have you ever used an LLM?

Here’s a screenshot I took after spending literally 10 minutes with chatgpt very confidently stating incorrect answers to a simple question over and over. (from this thread) Not only is it completely incapable of coming up with a very simple correct answer to a very simple question, it is completely incapable of responding in a coherent way to the fact that none of its answers are correct. Humans don’t behave this way. Nothing that understands what is being said would respond this way. It responds this way because it has no understanding of the meaning of anything that is being said. It is responding based on statistical likelihoods of words and phrases following one another, like a markov chain but slightly more advanced.

  • I don’t see how it could be measured except from looking at inputs&outputs.

Okay, then consider that when you input something into an LLM and regenerate the responses a few times, it can come up with outputs of completely opposite (and equally incorrect) meaning, proving that it does not have any functional understanding of anything and instead simply outputs random noise that sometimes looks similar to what one would output if they did understand the content in question.
