“Books were only one type of receptacle where we stored a lot of things we were afraid we might forget. There is nothing magical in them, at all. The magic is only in what books say, how they stitched the patches of the universe together into one garment for us.” Professor Faber

Conduit is probably the best option, I just haven’t done anything with it yet. And I might have to convince partner to cut some holes in the wall to make that work. I’ll eventually figure it out.

Oh the orange ones are the most fun. I had a couple oranges as a kid and they were so sweet and so dumb. I loved them lol

I would love to run a long hdmi cable from my pc to my tv, but I have rabbits and they like the spicy hay

This is literally the only reason I’ve tried to download it, I’m not paying money for that 🏴☠️
But every time I search for Melania, it’s just all porn.

I wasn’t even that against the human aspect, I just wanted more characters from Beast Wars. I very much would have liked to have seen Blackarachnia because she was my favorite.

I was kind of excited for that Transformers because I watched a lot of Beast Wars as a kid. But all the previews looked pretty meh, then I found out my favorite characters wouldn’t be in it, so I said fuck it. Still have not watched it.

Yep, I met my partner through OKC just before they enshittified. I also had used it to meet folks when I travelled for work. I had a note on my profile that I travelled a lot and just wanted to see new cities and eat good food. Surprisingly, I had far more platonic meetups than creepy guys trying to hook up, which I stated I wasn’t looking for in my profile.
I was a very very early adopter of OKC. I remember when it was more of a social media website with quizzes and badges than just dating. I’m still friends with a few people I met there in the early days.
I used to have a 2 cats who did and both of those girls looked just like your cat

I literally had this reaction from a someone recently. I commented that I had trouble installing a specific program, so I switched back to windows for now. I was not looking for advice, it was just a post asking about recent Windows user’s experience switching to Linux, so I shared my experience and that I had the intention to try again because I want off Windows.
Dude commented like I’m just a dumb dumb who didn’t follow the numerous instructions online (I did) because it’s so easy to install on Linux (doesn’t change my issue) that their mom could do it (again, still doesn’t change that I had issues).
I’ll be trying again soon, but I can understand why some folks would be turned off of Linux because of that.

Same here. I used to claim every single free game each week except when it was the HP game. I think I’ve played maybe one and I’m so disgusted by the comments of the CEO that I just uninstalled it a couple of weeks ago because it’s no longer worth the space on my hard drive.
What a cutie pie! Please give scritches!!
Sweary Miss Frizzle is the perfect description!

Ghostbusters: Afterlife
I have been a big Ghostbusters fan since I was a little kid. After people ruined chances for an Answer the Call sequel, I had high hopes for Afterlife. Biggest movie letdown of my life.
I know everyone loves to shit on Answer the Call, but that is my #2 GB movie only after the original. It was so much better than Afterlife, it was a true GB comedy ghost movie about adults with raunchy humor. Afterlife is just a teen family friendly coming of age horror movie, no raunchy humor, and shoves Easter eggs everywhere. It was so awful, I can’t watch Frozen Empire.
It’s a bit clunky of a start, but I am honestly enjoying it so far. I really like Captain Ake’s whole persona. I loved that she was completely sucked into a book while sitting in the captains chair, that would absolutely be what I would end up doing.
Not a whole lot has happened yet, so we will see where the show’s plot goes, but I like it. I really do like the shape of the ship too.

I feel like this is the kind of condescending comment mentioned above because you assume that I didn’t try those instructions. Maybe I’m more of an average PC user than I thought and just more experienced in Windows than my colleagues, so I know how to fix Windows specific problems 🤷♀️
I don’t know what to tell you. I spent 6 hours following all of those instructions trying to get it working and it didn’t work. I reinstalled Windows, downloaded an exe, and had wow running as soon as it updated. That’s the kind of simplicity Windows provides to an average user, a quick install vs 10 different sets of instructions.
Like I said, I’m not giving up on Linux, but my game machine is Windows for now.

This is a big reason why most won’t switch. Linux can be difficult to get started with and Windows really makes things a lot easier for the average person.
I tried to switch over to Linux this weekend, I gave up and switched back to Windows last night. I’m not completely computer illiterate, I know how to fix things enough that my colleagues often ask me (the administrative assistant) about simple stuff before going to IT.
I really like the Linux environment and I found alternatives to my frequently used programs, but the one thing I really use my computer most is to play World of Warcraft. I spent hours trying to get it working and I couldn’t. I don’t understand the terminal stuff, GitHub is confusing, and there are so many obscure forums with info I don’t understand. With Windows, the install is incredibly simple and I had my previous setup running within 2 hours.
I WANT to switch to Linux, but until I can run wow a lot easier, it looks like I won’t be. I’m not fully giving up on Linux, it just won’t be on my main machine.
It’s really similar to a conversation I had with a classmate on Android vs iPhone. He just didn’t get why I have an iPhone; “Android is more open”, “you have more options”, etc. I had to explain that it just works; I get a new phone when my old one is no longer supported, then all I have to do is sign in and my phone is back to where it was. Yes, it’s a walled garden, yes there are things Apple does that I don’t like, but the phone itself is simple and easy to upgrade. It just works.
I read too many books to remember all of the plots. I recommend books to people based on the vibe I get from a book. “Oh! You like dystopian romance? Try out the Mercenary Librarians books! I don’t remember what happened, but I loved them!”
You’re the pineapple blossom post! That’s such a nice picture.
I’ve been intentionally trying to be less of a lurker and more active in comments. !books@lemmy.world is one place that I’ve tried to be more active because I love reading, thinking, and talking about books. I was also posting updates about a green lynx spider on my lemmy.world account before I switched to piefed, this is a good reminder for me to post an update on my girl (RIP) and her beautiful little babies.
Lots of us lurkers need to be more active, myself included.
What a handsome fella he was! Thank you for sharing.
