  • I don’t really get the whole NAS thing i must admit. Most of what I read about what people are doing is enabling slacker family and friends ? (That’s not a critisism, just an observation)

    I have a TV, a HDD connected on the router and Kodi on the Nvidia Shield Pro. Any music is stored on my phone, or streamed via Netradio

    I very occasionally copy media across to my phone to watch and then… it sits there and I dont watch it.

    My parter uses Kodi on the TV occasioanly.

    I don’t stream anything aside from some YT occasionally (DIY etc)

    I get people do endless shit with their NAS, or server but I’m am retired and don’t have the time

    Books are managed via Calibre on a a Kobo.

  • That’s what batteries are for, so you need to size appropriately.

    Solar panels – > charger —> batteries —> inverter ----> you

    You can also have a have a camp stove and do boiling water with that as a back up after days of rain and your batteries are running low. Charging a phone is nothing boiling water and using an induction cooker are where your power draws are at.

    We lived off grid for a decade. The longest we went in 10 years was 21 days straight of rain.

    If you are near a creek with some drop a small hydro would complement a solar if you are good at DIY ie when its raining a lot you’ll have water flow but it brings a whole heap of maontence issues eg clearing intakes etc

    Honestly that sounds like a jerk move.

    Quite the opposite,

    Why would you force someone to use Linux?

    In what world is that force ? He wasnt holding a gun to her head, the opposite, he’s freeing her from stupidity.

    Decent people help others, they don’t go along with their stupid ideas before at least trying to convince them its a stupid idea. An allegory perhaps, your friend comes over, they have a 1/2 dozen beers, they’re going to drive home… In your world it seems it’s force to ask them not to and to stay over.

    It isn’t your computer and if you are helping them you should do what they want

    Helping them is the phrase you seem to be confused about. It’s his sister, not his boss at the office.
