I hope that the goal is just to get people engaged in the comments and grow Lemmy
They could do that with legitimate accounts, even if they were bots, there’s no need to have multiple bots that delete themselves (though it seems now the bots aren’t deleting the accounts). I agree, there’s a bigger purpose with these.
You’re either living a very sheltered life or just trolling.
I acknowledge cyclists break traffic laws.
But drivers break them too, while getting angry at cyclists for doing the exact same things.
I take it you’ve never seen the comments on the internet about any trucking crash. It’s pretty fucking racist, apparently no white guy has ever once wrecked a truck.
Painting people with a broad brush, whether it’s race, nationality, or hobby, is bigotry.
For whatever reason, bigotry against cyclists is allowed and even celebrated.
Drivers are out there trying to kill us, because they saw some cyclists ran a red light. Doesn’t even have to be the same cyclists, just kill a random one, get a slap on the wrist, and go on with life. And 99% of people are happy with that outcome. So yeah I’m fucking fired up. If you don’t understand why, I don’t know what to tell you.
Comics like this are just pushing the narrative that all cyclists break laws, while ignoring that cars do the same thing - and much worse - with a much higher chance of damage and injury. People regularly die when drivers screw up. Happens all the time. Just another statistic.
I don’t know why this is so hard for drivers to understand.
I will not give up.
Let me put it this way. If that comic had a truck driven by a guy wearing a turban, everyone would be rightly calling it out as racist and bigoted.
Why is bigotry against cyclists not only okay, but also funny?
A driver buzzed me and my dog a few days ago. In my own neighborhood, with snow and ice on the roads, and roads narrowed by snow on the sides (we don’t have sidewalks). Probably going 40 mph in a 25 zone. Less than three feet away from me. Idiocy.
Where are the comics about those drivers? Why are you so willing to accept drivers doing illegal things, while getting so bent out of shape about cyclists going illegal things?
Cars are way more dangerous than any cyclist will ever be. I know if I had to pick a vehicle to run into me, it’ll be the cyclist every time.
but if one side is acting like a hypocrite pretending it is only the other party breaking the rules, it is worth pointing out.
On that I agree. Drivers regularly complain about cyclists as though they aren’t doing similar shit. Where are the comics about that?
But car brains only get mad at cyclists for it.
i am pretty sure people complain about other drivers all the time.
Show me the comics. Show me the online vitriol. Show me the death threats drivers get online every time a video is posted.
yes, this is true. but should that mean that cyclists should ignore the traffic rules, or what is the point?
The point is that people in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones.
They only get mad at cyclists because it’s an “other” group they can see.
Dude, come ride in my car sometime. Practically every driver out there thinks the rules don’t apply to them, either. I’d record them on a dash cam, but I don’t want to spend my life editing videos for YouTube. It’s a fucking jungle out there. As a practical matter, what’s the difference between not knowing the law (an assertion I reject) and ignoring it?
But car brains only get mad at cyclists for it. A car running a stop sign or rolling right on red is treated as business as usual. I see cops doing it.
I had to laugh at the links to deaths caused by cyclists. Two, world wide. Death from drivers doing stupid shit are so common, they don’t even bother writing articles about it. It’s not newsworthy. Cars do a lot more damage when they hit something.
And I say this as a cyclist that does follow the laws, aside from occasionally rolling a stop sign, when it’s safe (Idaho stop, but it’s not legal in my state).
LOL I see way more cars running red lights and stop signs that I ever see bicycles doing it. And cars do a fuckton more damage when they hit something.
I cycle thousands of miles each year, and I haven’t seen a cyclist run a red in years. Depends on where we’re riding, I guess.
So, why are you asking me to deescalate? Have you asked everyone else in this post and the author of the comic itself? Why pick me?
Ah yes because every driver obeys every law all the time. It’s only the cyclists that break laws! No driver would ever consider speeding, rolling through a stop sign, or being aggressive!
Won’t someone think of the poor drivers!!
Yeah! Even later iterations of their logo had remnants of the legs. I’m not sure if they still do, though, I’m not a coffee drinker and rarely go to Starbucks.
Ah, the Mermaid Problem…
Fun fact, mermaids were originally drawn with two legs/fins.

Yeah that’s my problem with this story - I can’t figure out what he thinks happened to see if it happened on my machine as well. I’m pretty sure it hasn’t, but you never know.
I don’t even know which dll was the malicious one. And how it got installed. I have trouble believing some remote hack that would work on windows would also work on wine. I know it’s not impossible, but it just seems really far fetched.
It would have had to have happened while he was running the software; as far as I know, wine isn’t sitting there running all the time like a service, and it shouldn’t be answering requests from the internet. Maybe he does run the program all day, though, which opens up some sort of vulnerability.
But it’s so confusing, I can’t even come up with another theory. They deleted all his files in retaliation for discovering the hack? Possible, yes, but like someone else said they would have had to be watching, unless he hit some trip wire. And a separate windows system had the same hack?
In any case, at the least, it’s a reminder to have a good firewall, especially on an untrusted network, and backups.
I got to experience something like this today!
High winds in the area have meant that our power has gone out a few times, only to come back a minute or two later. After one outage, our TV wouldn’t turn on again. My initial thought was that the power strip got zapped from a surge, so I leaned behind the TV stand to check it.
Stitch, one of our cats, decided to help! He jumped on to the subwoofer I was leaning over, and was looking behind the TV with me.
(It turned out the remote somehow forgot the settings for our TV and sound bar. Everything is fine, fortunately.)
I’m getting close to that point. I started playing with it in 1997 or 1998, trying to avoid grad school work… Daily driver at home for many, many years.
he is just reading lines with the same facial expression all the time. If you havent noticed, try rewatching with that in mind… :)
That’s basically Duchovny’s whole range, as far as I can tell.
I think he was in some non-X-Files related movie. I never saw it, but I remember the commercial for it. Duchovny’s character: “Are you here to kill me?” “Yes, are you worried?” “Just trying to plan my day.” All deadpan.
I got so tired of X-Files stringing me along. It reminded me of some women that I tried to date. I gave up after the first movie (yeah, the one everyone forgets about) - no answers there, either!

We’ve picked all of ours from rescues and shelters.
I can’t justify adopting another one (we have 3,plus a dog), but part of me knows that if the cat distribution system sent me one, I’d have a difficult time letting go.
Pretty?
In my mind, I equate Gnome with OS X, while KDE is more like Windows.
I can use both competently, but I prefer KDE. Back when I used Ubuntu, I’d always use Kubuntu.
Whatever happened to that scam where they were going to send a bunch of people to live on Mars? Let’s revive that for them. But actually send them, say, to Venus.
