No longer possible. Too many Canadians live paycheck to paycheck, they can’t survive the time it would take to force government action against business.

In Ontario it’s a lottery. Maybe you get a doctor, maybe you don’t! Maybe they dismiss your symptoms for years, maybe you get referral for surgery that restores your quality of life!

That’s to be expected, they are politicians. Their ‘career’ is made entirely of telling people not to do the things that they do until they can buy enough boats and cottages to retire.
I would call working into your 70s “involuntary suicide.”
Billionaires today will be long dead before it becomes a problem.

Good, maybe it will highlight the myopic decision making of Canada’s leaders.

Good, not for us, but good that Signal is not backing down to the clowns who run this maple scented circus.

Thats why you compile and compare!

Open firmware. If it connects to the internet it should be auditable.
Having a 50k vehicle fleet of war drivers is not a good situation.

Intentionally ignorant age verification systems.
It is possible to build a government operated an age verification system that does not require the disclosure of personally identifying information to websites NOR your browsing history to the government. But that would require an informed, forward thinking, approach that the Canadian government is just not capable of executing.

I work for a company that manufactures a product that you can buy off the shelf anywhere in Canada. They do not give a shit if their employees could afford it, they have doubled the price per unit since 2019. Their target demographic is commercial buyers, or wealthy individuals.

Why would they care? What their employees can afford to buy isn’t their problem. The only thing that matters is the line has to go up.

Because employers don’t want to pay full time wages and full time benefits. Part time positions are cheaper to fill and can be vacated by starving out part timer in favour of another.

Even if Canada keeps trying to speedrun 1984 you can still keep yourself safe and keep your data secure but you have to start now and get your friends and family on board.
Keep your data in places that you own, not cloud services. If you have to store data in the cloud, encrypt it before you upload it.
Use LibreOffice instead of Microsoft Office/365 or Google Docs for sensitive documents like taxes, legal forms, or financial information.
If you need to do some private browsing, use VPNs that exit from countries that don’t share data with 5 Eyes members.
If you need to communicate privately use encryption. SMS/MMS/RCS are all readable by your cell carrier, most email is readable by the provider (Google, Yahoo, Microsoft, etc), DMs are all readable by the site operator (Instagram, Twitter, Discord, etc.). Use a messaging system with end to end encryption like Signal or Proton mail (emails that go to non-Proton addresses are readable by the email provider).
If you can not use a an inherently safe communication platform you can use PGP: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pretty_Good_Privacy or GPG: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GNU_Privacy_Guard to send encrypted messages over any platform but it requires that you manually encrypt and decrypt messages yourself.
It’s all about balance, do you really care if your searches for the best cat litter are private? Not really. But if you are having financial troubles, or are trying to work your way out of a vulnerable situation it is worth it to ensure that neither businesses nor governments can take advantage of that.
the above is copy pasta of a previous post I made

At the first opportunity people started to ctrl-c/ctrl-v their entire lives into machines just so they could avoid making a decision or doing a 5 second web search.
LLMs need to be heavily regulated and taxed to within an inch of profitability to offset the economic and ecological damage they do. But users also need to be slapped around for willingly handing their personal information to techbros.

I don’t think you are understanding the problem.
Work from home hurts businesses, back to office hurts people. If we hurt businesses they might leave! People don’t have that option.

The yankee funded racist propaganda wont work here
It does though. The trucker convoy demographic has only become louder and more belligerent since trump was re-elected. I work with a lot of construction contractors and they are almost uniformly of the “Fuck Trudeau”, pickup truck, Alberta ostrich conspiracy, variety.
Except we don’t get to pick candidates, we only get to pick Red or Blue.
