Reddit is fully leaning into their AI for all moderation decisions. It started with violence, and now they’re expanding into racism. The problem with this AI model is it’s tuned really, really badly.
For example: you cannot post instructions for how to save someone from a dog attack (because it involves using a belt to choke the dog). The AI considers this violence, even though you are trying to save their life.
For racism, you cannot quote anyone. If a store manager tells you “don’t sell to black people,” and you go to Reddit to complain, quoting what your manager told you will get you suspended.
You used to be able to dispute these false warnings and Reddit was still usable, but now they’re being either ignored or denied for unexplained reasons.
Reddit just does not give a shit anymore. If 15% of their users are struggling to use the site, they think it’s acceptable.
I’d say it’s worse than that. A lot of subs are now limited by karma as well, thus getting your first 100 can now take upwards of a month. This is primarily because the subs that do allow posting have become overrun by new accounts and bots.
The new user experience has become atrociously bad, with a lot of users complaining on r/newtoreddit. Many end up getting pushed away and leaving. Without new users, bots have less competition. Makes for an all-around terrible experience for all users, new and old.
