Yeah, package managers are great… but also… for somethings… flatpaks from Flathub/Software Center are also great because those apps get automatically updated in the background, so you don’t even have to think about updating anything.
Yep. I didn’t realize the flatpak version worked better. I never get those manual update prompts anymore and Software Center automatically updates Discord when there are updates.

Same thought! I tried a NAS once and it was just a slower, more locked down version of a regular server I could build myself.
I’m not sure I fully understand the point of a NAS. I guess, is it supposed to be an off-the-shelf server for non technical people?
Depends on your major, I guess.
My university’s CS program basically required GNU+Linux (as I’ve recently took to calling it). It was great actually.

How do updates work with WOW computers? Or does the software just never get updated? Or do you just update the computer for him every now and then? What distro is this using underneath?
I tried using Privacy a few years ago, but 1. a lot of websites block Privacy’s prepaid debit card numbers and 2. I ran into a spending limit.
But, the ease of use was nice. Not sure if things have changed since then.

Yeah, it definitely feels out of place.
On the other hand… it is kinda nice that tasks and notes are offered in WebDAV because I don’t have to maintain yet another service for each of those.
If I weren’t the one maintaining these instances, then sure I’d say launch one service for calendars, one for tasks, and one for notes.
My use case is I want to write text and I want that text to be synced from my phone and laptop. I want to deploy the minimum number of services. I don’t care about any text editor features as long as I can write text and read it.
I’ve already deployed Radicale and I’d rather not have to maintain anything else.
I realize I can deploy something else just for notes, but I really don’t want to maintain something else.

Is it the same driver or is it different? If the drivers are different, then it seems like a good thing? The app using the driver has exactly the version it wants. There shouldn’t be any surprises now in the code because oops this is a slightly different nvidia driver.
OK, so I left Spotify for Navidrome a while back BUT. What Spotify sells isn’t music. Spotify sells curation and recommendations. Most people aren’t music lovers that want to hunt for cool new music. They just want a pre-generated list of songs that they’ll more or less like. That’s actually kinda huge.
A recommendation engine is something I wish fediverse or open source would tackle. I’m on Navidrome now, but I’m definitely listening to way less music now—access isn’t an issue—I just haven’t had time to hunt around for new music. Investigating new bands takes time. On Spotify, you do it without even really thinking about it.
