Eh, I find Emby pretty close to on-par at this point.
I’m also not particularly happy with giving a bunch of people VPB access to my setup. Or other potential complications that come with that setup.
I know enough to be able to lock it down, but I dont want the hassle. And other people will want it less.
I’m pretty happy with Emby, which also lets me easily do remote streaming.
I assume they replied to you after someone downvoted you but before all the upvotes.
And how are you doing remote streaming from friends with Jellyfin?
Well that sucks.
I agree.
I like Emby a lot. It’s my backup for Plex. I even give them money as development isn’t free (frequently)
Everything is clickbait, everything and everyone sucks, etc. To a large number of people here.
Does Jellyfin do remote streaming?
That makes zero sense.
I mean, it naturally has to be something that they eventually find a way to charge you something for. If it’s a for-profit business, and if they only sold lifetime subscriptions, they would eventually go out of business.
Yeah, absolutely. Same here, I find used laptops often make GREAT homelab systems, and ones with broken screens/mice/keyboards can be even better since you can get them CHEAP and still fully use them.
I have 4 doing various things including one acting as my “desktop” down in the homelab. But they’re between 4 and 14 years old and do a great job for what they’re used for.
Yeah, not here either. I’m now at a point where I keep wanting to replace my last host thats limited to 16GB. All the others - at least the ones I care about RAM on - all support 64GB or more now.

Any guesses why that is?
It would be really nice if I could have it sync to both. I’d like to sync it locally and have all the features available, but for convenience I would also like the option of a secure, reputable cloud service that costs a reasonable fee.
They seem good. However, using the app seems to be either/or (local or their service)
They’re also twice the price of Google, which is a bit tough to swallow.
Which model Dell?
Buying few-year old enterprise gear can be a really cost-effective way to get a ton of power and expandability. But the noise, footprint, and power requirements seem pretty niche, even for homelab/selfhost people.
But I’m curious if you’re talking about a full-depth rack system like I’m assuming, or something else.
Personally, I switched to a handful of very small-footprint systems (mostly NUC/SFF PCs, and some laptops). And use cheap jbod enclosures when I need to add external storage.
Uh, ok
