Nooooooo Mull is dead now? It’s my default browser.
I hope someone picks it up and forks it like we have Cromite for Bromite.
I live in a city and it didn’t map out every address here, like my friend’s address for example. But I feel its fine because that way everyone’s privacy is maintained and if I want to share my location to anyone I can use those unique links associated to my place. Besides that it mapped almost all of the public places and even has navigation built into it(which I thought wouldn’t be available).
These are my initial impressions. Let’s see how it fares up as I keep using it.
Downloaded it. It’s crazy how its not really that far behind gmaps.
It is explained in their github.
“Glide typing (only with closed source library ☹️) library not included in the app, as there is no compatible open source library available can be extracted from GApps packages (“swypelibs”), or downloaded here (click on the file and then “raw” or the tiny download button)” https://github.com/Helium314/HeliBoard#:~:text=Glide typing (,tiny download button)
In the app, you go Advanced > Load gesture typing library > Select your downloaded library.
Recently I too have made a huge change in move towards degoogling and replaced Gboard with Heliboard. I never thought I’d be able to replace Gboard because I use gesture typing a lot. Heliboard doesn’t come inbuilt with gesture typing but you have to import from closed source(?) data which is just a one time import (would like to know more on this one from someone more knowledgeable). So far, it has been great!
Is Automattic a good company tho? Heard some not so good stories about them recently.
Xiaomi has the biggest custom ROM scene out there btw despite them trying their hardest to stop bootloader unlocking. You really don’t need to have a company supporting unlocking to make ROMs for them. If they outright block it then that’s an issue.
Use Searxng. I always wanted to branch out of DDG and now this is push I needed.
I’m seeing way more ads at the top(at the top 5 of the search) related to the keyword I’m typing. For eg, if I am searching for a movie pirate website I would get ad results at the top which are paid like Netflix, Amazon Prime etc and no results related to the pirate site I’m searching. This is not how it used to be. I used to find those sites at the top 3 resuls. It was convenient.
Yes duck assist is great and I like Duck ai as well.
Use searx next time instead of Google.
Why is this on privacy community?
Yep I am not using that.
this topic is especially difficult because of the clear emotional desire for it not to be true. hence the degree of fragile cope in this thread
Well said.
Thank you, will consider these options.
Yes that was the story I was referring to. It doesn’t really take that much technological effort to listen to your mic and send bits of data to server.
Bruh Brave or Vivaldi? Those are not even the best options out there
I am surprised by the response I got from majority here. I thought the people who are privacy-focused, wouldn’t give the benefit of doubt to Google of all companies. But it isn’t the case here. Everyone here just assumes and believes strongly it isn’t technically not possible which is really the case when you look at the other services offered by Google.
@op i would advise caution on stating ‘24x7’ until there is evidence of that specific claim. (unless you’re referring to while voice assistants are enabled.)
Google app which is pre-installed is pretty a forced voice assistant on everyone on android.
People saying it hurts battery usage, sends crazy amounts of network etc don’t seem to use the latest features from Google.
Now playing, Adaptive audio are some features of android system that Google has given in recent years which listen to our microphones all the time and serve their purpose. I have used them in the past, although it said it consumes battery, I never experienced huge battery brain. Google also says these services work on device and never leaves the device, but I assume extracting few words from my audio and sending them to their servers at frequent times wouldn’t be such a technically demanding process like everyone are stating here on this post. It entirely possible and probably happening.
What does this mean?
