Apparently it’s all up to Peter Jackson. From wikipedia:
In March 2018, Spielberg reiterated the above, saying that “Peter Jackson has to do the second part. Normally, if all goes well, he will soon start working on the script. As it takes two years of animation work on the film, for you, I would not expect to see it for about three years. But Peter will stick to it. Tintin is not dead!”
Actually, it’d be really neat if Steven Spielberg revisited “The Dig”, the Lucasarts point and click game. Spielberg originally wanted for it to be a movie, but IIRC he wasn’t sure the special effects was up to snuff at the time, so it became a game instead.
Alan Dean Foster did a novelization of it. I found it at a thrift store a while back. I haven’t read it yet, but I was surprised that one existed since I’d never heard of it.
The atmosphere is amazing in it, same with the voice acting, and they did some creative things with the Scumm engine.
That one “turtle” skeleton puzzle can go kick rocks tho…

The Dig is such an underrated classic. It was amazing when it released and then became forgotten as soon as 3D and Adventure games mixed.
