Major changes: Get rid of junk mail. Sure it’s the majority of their income, but it’s the majority of the work they do too. And I fucking hate getting trash sent to my mailbox. It’s disgusting. So, with the reduced load, make deliveries 3 times a week. Anything really time sensitive has other options. There. It would take a pretty significant restructuring, but the other option seems to be a slow death and I think the Postal Service is too incredibly important to let that happen.
I’d like to piggyback off this and say that this would be a prime organization to trial 24/32hr work weeks as full-time. The folks who want or need 40-60hr weeks would receive appropriate compensation while those that want free time will obviously have more.
