A Palestinian rights organization has warned that the Israeli prison transport vehicle known as the “Bosta” has effectively become a “mobile iron coffin,” subjecting Palestinian detainees to severe suffering during transfers between prisons and courts.

According to the center, transport journeys often last for long hours and can sometimes exceed 24 hours, during which prisoners endure extremely harsh and painful conditions. Detainees are reportedly confined inside narrow iron compartments while handcuffed and shackled throughout the journey, with little regard for their basic human needs.

Because of the brutality associated with these transfers, many prisoners have refused to attend court hearings or meet their lawyers in order to avoid what they describe as “journeys of torment,” the center added.

It further reported that several detainees have died during such transfers.
