Can someone provide some sources for that 35k number? It’s just too outlandish for me to accept it so easily. Iran is an authoritarian theocratic dictatorship but atrocity propaganda is still a very real thing that western media does to justify foreign interventions. Both can be true; the Iranian regime can be murdering its citizens and the western reporting can be fluffing the numbers to manufacture consent for the war.
Back in February, there were 7,007 which could be confirmed by name even through the misinformation attempts of the authoritarian Iranian regime which had, by that point, shut off internet access for the civilian population. Another 11,744 were under review at the time - so around 19,000 possible deaths, most of which were after January 10.
With that in mind, another 16,000 possible deaths over two months is hardly unbelievable.

In any case, the US-Israeli ‘justification’ for the war is about Iran’s nuclear program, not its domestic repression.
