So Mamdani has announced he wants to open a humanitarian-style store. A part of the description mentions it’s going to be based in food people need. That made me want to ask, is it going to be like the Country Buffet where you pay what you weigh? Because if so, I’m cooked because I’m fat. Thanks stupid thyroid :(
I don’t have the details of the plan in question, but I imagine it will work similar to military commissaries (a chain of government run grocery stores).
We Found The Radical Solution To Skyrocketing Grocery Prices
Great video! Nice to see someone highlighting successful government run grocery stores!
A bit funny to see congress people that use and support government run grocery stores, while also talking bad about them.
I’m not sure what ‘pay what you weigh’ entails, but I’m also not sure where you’re seeing any indication that that’s what this is. By my read, it’s just a grocery store that sells essential items at an affordable baseline price. I would expect the result to be that those items will become cheaper elsewhere in the city, too (as other shops adjust prices to compete), while items that aren’t stocked in the new stores (e.g. cigarettes, lottery tickets, liquor, etc.) will become more expensive as they need to drive profits at those other locations. Personally, I’d call this a major net positive.
Aside from the fact Hochul’s Upstate New York tax may or may not be going toward this (people should pay for their own projects), I do support his idea and would technically forgive the pay-what-you-weigh rule being a rule even though I’d feel left out.
Is this satire? Please tell me this is satire. I want to respond to all the stupidity in this comment. But I know I’m autistic and sometimes can’t tell.
